Working Together: Parent Participation

Skytown parents have the opportunity to work in the school with the children and teachers. While parents enjoy assisting and learning about the program in operation, the children enjoy seeing their parents as an important part of their school world.

Depending on the level of parent participation chosen, parents' work will include a combination of some or all of the following activities:

TODDLER PROGRAM: a parent (or relative) works as an assistant teacher one morning for every three mornings that the child is scheduled to attend, arriving at 8:45 AM am and leaving at approximately 1:00 PM, or when clean-up is completed. A negative test for tuberculosis is required for participating adults.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM: a parent (relative or caregiver) works as an assistant teacher one morning for every four mornings that the child is scheduled to attend, arriving at 8:45 AM and leaving at approximately 1:00 PM, or when clean-up is completed. A negative test for tuberculosis is required for participating adults.

Choose a family job or serve on the Board of Directors. Each family job is vital and helps to keep the school running efficiently. The Board of Directors receive certain benefits to help compensate for the amount of time they spend on school business.

(a) ATTEND monthly membership meetings

(b) COMPLETE three work party hours per semester (Sept.-Jan.; Feb.-June), and occasionally three hours during the summer;

(c) PARTICIPATE in fund-raising projects throughout the school year (ongoing scrip sales and others as needed throughout the school year and summer).

Two-parent families are encouraged to share these responsibilities.

Families may buy out of any or all of their classroom participation and job responsibilities. Buyout rates are:

Toddler classroom participation: $63.00 per day
Preschool classroom participation: $63.00 per day
Family job hours: $75 per month
Work party: $119 per semester
