Preschool Program

Skytown Cooperative Preschool provides a healthful, safe, and varied environment in which each child can develop physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively at a pace and in a manner most comfortable for the individual child.
Preschool classroom
The preschool program has a maximum of 27 students per day with two fully qualified teachers working together to provide an enriching play-based experience for the children. Including parents, the child/adult ratio is 4-to-1. Parents choose whether their child(ren) attends three, four, or five mornings per week. The program is from 9 am to 12 noon.

Children, individually or as part of a small or large group of peers, may choose and pace their own activities each day from:
  • easel painting and play-dough areas
  • sand and water play
  • riding toys
  • a beautiful new climbing structure, including slides, and monkey bars
  • a large collection of children's books in quiet reading areas
  • musical activities and rhythm instruments
  • blocks, puzzles, trains, dolls, puppets, plastic animals and dinosaurs
  • a dress-up area, and a well-stocked play kitchen area
  • daily art projects and other activities planned by the head teachers and based on general monthly curriculum themes
Special activities include cooking projects, seed planting and gardening, nature walks, and celebration of traditional and ethnic holidays. The program is further enriched with occasional field trips to nearby locations. The typical preschool morning ends with the very popular large group Circle Time which is filled with songs, fingerplays and discussions, followed by small group Storytime.
The high adult-to-child ratio allows children to be well supervised as they learn to make their own choices and as they interact with others in a setting that is stimulating yet safe, supportive, and flexible.
Skytown recognizes that children become toilet-trained at different times. We accept children in diapers and are happy to assist in the toilet-training process.
